Nic & Jen - Founders of CitiPods
The idea started with a major problem:
The amount of driver accidents I was seeing on the streets of South Africa, almost on a weekly basis. I know something needs to be done about this, but also the prblem is age old across Africa and I am not sure I am the right person to be solving for it yet (but please someone do!!). Now, with my eye in tune on drivers, and rage around the safety of drivers, I started noticing not only are they undertaking such a dangerous job, but also, majority of drivers aren't provided a place to rest between deliveries. Some would call this an office...
The more I literally just went about my life, the problem got worse and worse. Driver numbers are increasing daily as the e-commerce world explodes, yet the physical infrastructure lacks.
The streets and side walks have become inundated with delivery drivers, who have nowhere to urinate (basic human right), sit and eat lunch, find shelter from the elements and wash their hands.
Enter, CitiPods. I softly pitched the idea to everyone I knew , and people were so excited about it. But Nic, an architect, especially. My idea started with repurposed containers, and thankfully Nic came in and suggested beautiful wooden pods, modular and temporary, to inject some dignity into the "deskless-workers" lives.
We're obsessed with this problem, and the solution is evolving. So please, if you too feel passionate about this problem and want to make the streets of Mzansi more inclusive, safer, cleaner and better to look at and walk through, get in touch!
